Technical Specifications
History and Legacy
The American Gold Eagle was introduced in 1986 as the first modern gold bullion coin of the U.S. government.
Created under the Gold Bullion Coin Act of 1985, the American Eagle was designed to provide investors with a safe and convenient way to own physical gold backed by the United States government.
The obverse design features Augustus Saint-Gaudens' iconic Lady Liberty, originally created in 1907 for the $20 coin and considered one of the most beautiful numismatic designs in American history.
The original reverse showed a family nest of eagles designed by Miley Busiek. In 2021, it was updated with a new design by Jennie Norris featuring a bald eagle in flight over its nest with an eaglet.
With full government backing for weight, content, and purity, the American Eagle has become one of the most trusted and traded investment coins in the world.
